Today we are extremely excited to be rolling out a major update to the Woopra Web Application. In addition to over 500 bug fixes and improvements, we are also introducing some exciting new features!

Woopra Website Application Updates

We've updated new features for the Woopra Live web stats version, improving your access through your web browser.

Multiple Sites

The new Woopra 2.1 Web interface now allows users to connect to multiple websites in a single browser tab. This allows for a similar experience to the Woopra desktop application, but from right inside your favorite browser. You can seamlessly switch between connected websites without needing to reload data or open new tabs. And as you can see from the screenshot above, the Web app can handle a lot of simultaneous traffic.

We have been focusing on replicating the desktop user experience within the browser, and it turns out that modern browsers are solid enough to handle such applications. We will continue to invest our energy in this direction as it enable us to speed up the rate of feature deployment and bug fixes.

In addition to viewing multiple sites at once you can now also see the number of visitors currently on your website in blue, and notifications (which are currently limited to chat notifications) in red.

This allows you to manage multiple Web Chat sessions across different sites very easily, and will later incorporate other forms of notification. Stay tuned for that...

Visitors Idle Time

The Visitor Engagement area on the new Woopra Web Stats has shown the aggregate number of active vs. idle visitors since it's re-launch a couple of months ago.

Now we've added the ability to drill down and see their idle time beside each individual user under the Live Visitors' tab.

This additional information should give you great insight into which users are really active at the moment and which have simply left a browser window open.

 

Entirely New Woopra Features

We've added a lot of new features to Woopra's Live Stats version especially for our subscribers to improve analytics for businesses and commercial sites.

Funnel Analytics

Today we're delivering a highly requested feature in the form of our new Woopra Funnel Analytics. Simply stated, funnel analysis is the process of defining a path through your Web site and then measuring how many people have taken that path.

Let's discuss how this can be used. Below we have a screen shot showing the analysis of visitors who come to Woopra and who land on our Sign Up page. We wanted to determine if there is any difference in the behavior of visitors from the United States as compared to all visitors, and also if visitors originating from Google acted any differently from the average.

In the chart, the Green numbers indicate users continuing on through the Funnel, while Red numbers signal users who abandoned at that stage in the funnel.

In this instance we are making three comparisons:

  • All Visitors
  • US Visitors
  • Google Referred Visitors

And we have defined four different steps that we wanted to analyze.

  1. How many people visited the Signup Page in the given period of time?
  2. How many visited the Confirmation page (signifying that their signup was completed)?
  3. How many then edited their Profile page?
  4. And finally, how many added a Website to their account?

As you can see from the results of the report, it appears that US Visitors are slightly more prone to complete all of the steps than average, and that visitors originating from Google are not as likely to convert as those from other sources.

We can use this information to draw conclusions, make changes, and then test again to see if our changes had a positive impact. And this new Funnel analysis capability can be used to improve the performance of virtually any website!

There is one small catch when it comes to Funnel Analysis. This feature is only enabled for Woopra subscribers at the Gold level and up as these types of reports create very heavy load on the servers.

Campaigns

Another extremely powerful (and highly requested) feature we are rolling out is campaign management. This feature is also only available to clients subscribing at the Gold level or higher

Campaigns allow you to append a special parameter(s) to a link in order to track its performance. So, for example lets say you purchased multiple advertisements from another website and you wanted to determine how those ads were performing compared to one another. You might have one at the top of a page, and the other at the bottom, and each would be assigned a unique incoming URL in order for Woopra to track them as separate Campaigns.

In the example below, we added a campaign to track our users "upgrade" activities so that we could see who was upgrading from the free version to a paid version of Woopra. I add a variable to the URL automatically when an upgrade occurs, and Woopra captures that activity.

Once you've added the appropriate parameter to an inbound link you can go to the Campaigns area in the Woopra Web Application and begin to see the data collected on your campaigns. But even more importantly, each campaign becomes available to be used as a filter.

In this example we are creating a Campaign Name filter called "upgrade", which we can then apply from within the Analytics area. So, in this case we could use the Campaign filter to see only the visits which resulted in an upgrade for any given day, and also all of the other aggregate stats related to those customers who upgraded (which platforms they use, what browser, screen resolution, etc.).

By the way, if you happened to be using Google's Campaign tracking feature you'll notice that Woopra automatically recognizes those campaigns and they already appear in your reports. For example, Google's Feedburner application appends the variable onto links in email subscriptions.

We'll release a full guide on how to implement Campaigns soon, so look for a blog post with all the details.

Hopefully you immediately see the power of how Funnels and Campaigns can be used to better understand your user behavior - which can lead to improvements in site navigation, conversions, and usability. I highly recommend implementing these tools for all Woopra clients as they will be powerful weapons as you compete for traffic!
